All the exerting activities including sitting in the sun, makes a person sweat. It is both healthy and natural to sweat under such conditions. Basically when a person is exposed to heat, extreme emotional stress or strenuous exercise, he or she may lose some amount of fluid in perspiration. Sometimes this natural process does not function properly and results in excessive or no perspiration.
Some people sweat more than others for no specific reason. But some factors can make a person sweat heavily. Heredity is an important factor as some people inherit a tendency to sweat excessively. Drinking beverages that contain caffeine or alcohol can make a person sweat more than usual. Eating spicy foods also contribute in excessive sweating. Some drugs like antipsychotic medications (used to treat mental disorders) can also cause a person to sweat more. Women going through menopause may experience hot flushes accompanied with excessive sweating. Other contributing factors include heart attack, tuberculosis, malaria and low blood sugar.
People sweat, but why and when and how much depends on the individual. Perspiration that is triggered by emotion is most likely to occur on face, hands and armpits. But the intensity of sweat and body odor it produces can be influenced by diet, mood, medical conditions and drugs being used if any. In fact it is impossible to define normal sweating. One must try to the normal conditions of sweating of his or her body. It can be helpful in noticing any unusual changes in sweating pattern.
For those who sweat excessively, using an OTC (over the counter) deodorant or an antiperspirant is the best option. Deodorants can eliminate body odor but not perspiration. They are usually alcohol based and make the skin acidic hence reducing the chances of attracting bacteria. If medications do not work then surgery is also available.
